A Constant Social Space
A primary location for socialization on campus was the former Gargoyle night club, located on the lower levels of Mallinckrodt Center. Before it was replacd with academic offices and the Writing Center, the Gargoyle was a large venue often hosting live music, indie concerts, happy hours, and rehearsal spaces for cultural and performance groups. Its replacement caused strong student protest, capturing just how significant the Gargoyle and Mallinckrodt was as a center for the university's social scene, and Mallinckrodt's longstanding influence on the student social experience, regardless of the removal of the Gargoyle and other former student services.
